Base painting of the vintage movie poster for ''Resurrection'', a 1927 silent drama film directed by Edwin Carewe, based on the novel of the same name by Leo Tolstoy. The film stars Dolores del Río, Rod La Rocque, and Rudolph Schildkraut.
Set in Russia, "Resurrection" tells the story of Katyusha Maslova (played by Dolores del Río), a young woman who is seduced and abandoned by Prince Dmitri Nekhlyudov (played by Rod La Rocque). Years later, Nekhlyudov encounters Katyusha again, this time as a prisoner on trial for murder.
As Nekhlyudov becomes increasingly involved in Katyusha's case, he is forced to confront his own complicity in her downfall and the injustices of the social system that have led to her suffering. Through his efforts to seek redemption and help Katyusha find justice, Nekhlyudov undergoes a profound spiritual awakening and discovers the true meaning of love and compassion.
